Zug – Small and Compact

The small town of Zug, which lies to the south of Zurich, enchants with its charming Old Town and lake.

The small town of Zug can be reached from Zurich by public transportation in no time at all. The charming municipality attracts with its picturesque Old Town, where many tiny boutiques sell handmade jewelry, exclusive fashion, or Zug specialties.

In the Old Town, it is worth climbing the Zytturm, which is recognizable from afar by its blue and white roof. The key to this 13th-century building can be fetched free of charge from the Wunderbox boutique directly next door. From the top, there is a wonderful view over the rooftops and narrow, winding alleys of the Old Town.

However, Zug is known above all for its many cherry trees. The juicy Zug cherries are used to make all kinds of culinary specialties, the most famous of which are without doubt Zug cherry cake and Kirsch liqueur. And at the start of the cherry season, an amusing custom takes place known as “Chriesisturm”.

Those who prefer to relax surrounded by nature will find several open-air bathing facilities on Lake Zug, as well as various walking paths, where they can take in the fresh air and beautiful views.
